This is big MWC news, LG have firmly planted their feet in the Windows Mobile camp, telling the world it will be their OS of choice and they will be releasing a total of 50 phones running the Microsoft operating system before 2012, which for you maths fans out there, is 1.5 phones per month starting from March!
One of the first to feature both WinMo and their new S-Class user-interface will be the GM730, a tablet-style touchscreen phone which bears more than a passing resemblance to another touchscreen phone which has proven rather popular. This becomes even more apparent when you examine the S-Class UI, as seen recently on the LG Arena, which uses large icons as short cuts, plus a ‘cube’ effect accessed by a swipe of the finger.
The LG GM730 will use the brand new Windows Mobile 6.5 complete with IE6 and feature, 3G with HSDPA support, a 5 megapixel camera and the latest version 2.1 of Bluetooth, plus the touchscreen is a 3″ WQVGA item. LG have also mentioned something called Chat on the Map, a location-based social network for SMS, email and chat. We are expecting the launch of the GM730 to come before summer this year.
